Problem Statement:

How Can architecture solve the systemic issues seen in Overtown?

Thesis Statement: Over-town is one of Miami’s Historic Districts. Once known as Colored-Town, the Miami flagship for Afro-Americans now battles over-policing, food insecurity, and an educational deficit. By partnering with The Green Haven Project, we acknowledge how socio-systemic racism has led to community depletion. Under that investigation, we recognize the need to create a community space as a high priority. This project will reveal and communicate the palimpsest that Over-town is and by doing so make community connections at the micro and macro level in order to combat these issues.
